What We Believe and Teach About Demons

We believe and teach the existence of demons, many times called “spirits” in the Bible along with descriptive phrases. For example, the Bible mentions “evil spirits” (Acts 19:12-13), “unclean spirits” (Matthew 10:1; Mark 1:23, 26; Acts 5:16), “spirit of infirmity” (Luke 13:11), and “dumb and deaf spirit” (Mark 9:25).

We believe that evil spirits might be identified by their specific role or function. We also believe that some demons possess the spirit of murder, suicide, fear, or lying, and this associates them with various sins or attitudes that are contrary to the will of God.

We hold that these demons are Satan’s agents in his unholy purposes. We believe they are angels who rebelled against God by following Satan’s commands. They carry out Satan’s commands and they try to get people to disobey God's will. Like Satan, these demons shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10).
